This workshop invites participants to think broadly about religion as a vital part of the human experience. Learn about dominant theories found in the study of comparative religions, and explore how myths, rituals, and symbols function in human development, social formation, economic systems, and political resistance.

Dr. Crawford O’Brien is Associate Professor of Religion and Culture at Pacific Lutheran University. Her work emphasizes Native American religious traditions, and comparative studies of minority religious communities in North America, including religion and healing, gender and ethnicity, and religion and popular culture. Her recent publications include American Indian Religious Traditions: An Encyclopedia; Native American Religious Traditions; Religion and Healing in Native America: Pathways for Renewal; and Coming Full Circle: Spirituality and Wellness Among Native Communities in Western Washington.
